Pediatric Rehabilitation

Pediatric Rehabilitation Increases Independence and Self-Confidence through Fun

Kids will be kids…or so the saying goes. The staff of OLBH’s Pediatric Rehabilitation in Greenup work to ensure kids do what they do best: be kids. Children are the only priority at the facility, with the goal of facilitating children to their maximum level of functionality.

OLBH’s Pediatric Rehabilitation is a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation program that provides diagnostic evaluation, treatment and referral services for children up to 12 years of age who experience difficulty with the normal developmental process, have identified disabilities, or are experiencing learning problems. “We provide professional excellence in treating children with special needs,” Kimberly McKenzie, OLBH’s pediatric rehabilitation manager, said. “We offer experienced physical, occupational and speech therapists dedicated to treating children in a collaborative, family friendly environment using a variety of therapies to achieve the highest level of performance.”

Despite the serious goals, the facility’s staff accomplishes those objectives through play and structured activities. “We utilize play and fun activities to implement our therapies,” McKenzie said. “We love our jobs. Not only do we help children, but we do so by spending our days at play!” The physical activities recently became more fun and therapeutic due to renovations at the facility that added a new gym for more activities and sensory integration treatment. In addition to the facility in Greenup, OLBH can provide pediatric rehabilitation services in a variety of locations, including schools, day cares and other community sites.

Therapies offered include:
  • Pediatric Speech Therapy- Speech therapy addresses issues of articulation, verbal expression, comprehension, voice fluency, and feeding and swallowing as these issues relate to functional communication skills and disorders.
  • Occupational Therapy- The facility’s occupational therapy services focus on the underlying components of development in children for their occupation: play. The occupational therapy staff facilitates independence by addressing motor skill development, handwriting/education, behavior, activities of daily living (dressing, feeding, etc.) and sensory integration.
  • Physical Therapy- The pediatric physical therapy services of the facility address issues of gross motor development, muscle tone and strength, posture, gait, neuromuscular function, endurance, and other physical conditions related to mobility and quality of movement.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, talk to a family doctor or pediatrician about a referral to OLBH’s Pediatric Rehabilitation or contact the facility Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at (606) 833-3527.
